The Bee House
Screaming down some back road, we come over a rise, and there off in the distance, we see an abandoned farm house. Looks pretty darn interesting. Looking over to Connie…”yeah?”
“Oh yeah!”
Stopping in a cloud of dust, we fire up the Internet (a vehicle hot spot is such a cool feature) track down the land owner and make a call.
“Yes, okay, yes, yes, okay, we’ll do that.” It takes a few minutes but we’re in.
Entry is conditional as it oftentimes is. Here’s a summary…
Go in…and be damn quick about it.
Then get the **** out!
Post pictures if you like but say nothing that’d hint at the location.
And don’t come back!
“Roger that.”
“Oh”, then he hesitates, “watch out for bees!”
The building here dates from the 1920s. It’s a “barn house”, one with a gambrel style roof. Interestingly it’s been vacant for the better part of my life (and I’m 52). In spite of that some windows still hold glass. Usually vandals make short work of them.
The bees seem to pay us no mind, and there was a ton of them buzzing about. Good thing neither Connie nor I have fear. Picturing that whole Chris Farley/Tommy Boy scene, “they’re sting crazy!” and chuckle out loud.
Not sure we’ll ever revisit this place – the owner made it clear it would not happen. But wait, we’re Team BIGDoer. Everyone welcomes us with open arms! Yeah, right…
Two of our most favourite abandoned farm houses…
Peeling Paint and Lace Curtains.
1915 Cement House.
Short Subjects: reports that for any number of reasons are brief in nature. They might be updates to older articles, previews of posts planned or not yet published, brief snippets of things that don’t fit in anywhere else or subjects that are so obscure that information on them can’t be found. Or sometimes we just ramble on about Lord knows what.
If you need any more information on what we talked about here, by all means contact us!
Date of adventure: September, 2016.
Location: Vulcan County, AB.
The old farm house is on private property. BIGDoer.com was here with pemission.
That was long ago!
I know. I’m so far behind in posting things, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to catch up.
Molto bella !!!!!
Concordato!
Very nice Chris, my type of house (barn style)!
I like the barn-roofed houses too. They stand out and are quite distinctive. Thanks for commenting!
