Roam at Night

This is becoming a tradition it seems. Simply, we wander a part of town after dark and practise our low light photography skills. It’s not so much about the subject at this point but the technical aspects, including getting a good and shape image which was the one big problem dogging us. Using advice from friends, seems we’re getting it right. With these skills understood, now we can go further afield and take on more compelling subjects.

First up Colonel Walker School in the community of Inglewood, an old neighbour we often hang around in. The building dates from 1912 and is one of many old leaning institutions in town made of Sandstone – your author went to another, Sunalta. They’re all such an imposing structures. Colonel Walker was under threat of closure for a time due to falling enrolment, but that seems to be off the table for now. In the late 1910s it acted as a hospital during the great flu epidemic, giving rise to the legend the school is haunted (many afflicted, no doubt died here).

Just around the corner, this 1940s era house, all boarded up and forgotten. It’s been in this state for some years now and I guess could go at any time. And in it’s place will rise a new home. It’s by no means a stand out building architecturally wise – in fact it’s downright plain – but still the loss of another old house seems a shame. Given the neighbourhood is quite a bit older, we suspect there was another earlier house on this same property.

Hyperbolic Paraboloid.

Short Subjects: reports that for any number of reasons are brief in nature. They might be updates to older articles, previews of posts planned or not yet published, brief snippets of things that don’t fit in anywhere else or subjects that are so obscure that information on them can’t be found. Or sometimes we just ramble on about Lord knows what.

If you need any more information on what we talked about here, by all means contact us!

    Inglewood is always interesting.

    • It is. It’s loosing some of it charm (cough, cough, GENTRIFICATION!) but still is a wonderful place. It seems to be our go-to when we’re feeling the urge to urban explore.

My favourite thing about Inglewood is the ghost signs.
