Doublemint Twins

It’s the Doublemint Twins, a 1979 Boler (13 foot model) and the rig towing it, and all painted up the same minty green, a 1962 Chevrolet Pickup. These two roam the land appearing at campgrounds and car shows. Here we found them at an event in their homebase town of Kimberley BC. There in the midday sun the pair stood there shining, a bright blinding light as though a beacon. And we answered the call.

This one is branded Neonex, the firm that owned the Boler Brand starting in the early 1970s and until production shut down in the latter half of the 1980s. And while Neonex didn’t make all the Bolers themselves, contracting out production to other firms when demand was high, they did make this one. Thirteen foot Neonex Bolers, it’s said (and history of the firm is nothing but confusing) were built in a factory in Winfield BC, where as the 17 foot Neonex Bolers came from a facility in Calgary Alberta (See: Holy Ground.

Neonex was a Jim Pattison Company. Jim is BC’s most famous business mogul and his firm still owns the Boler trademarks today.

About 10000 Bolers were made (some papers suggested double that) with a good number still on the road. It’s a solid deign that with proper maintenance can made to last almost indefinitely and this accounts for them still being common to this day, decades after the last one was made.

That same weekend…
Wandering Cranbrook – wow!
The Little Cemetery Moyie BC – double wow!

Boler: A small cute-as-a-bug fibreglass travel trailer made in Canada in the 1970s and 80s. We make a fun game spotting them on road trips and adventures. We also include other similar trailers here, those from other manufacturers who are close in appearance or configuration to Bolers.
