Random Pick: It’s a Beast
Here’s an exciting new concept that if well received we plan to do again and again. We’ll pick totally at random subjects from our extensive photo collection that have never seen the light of day publicly, be they good or bad, and post them here. And of course, we’ll drone on incessantly about what’s seen. In person we’re quiet and reserved but get us behind a keyboard and watch out – we don’t shut the heck up. But this is a “short”, so it won’t be too painful.
Anyway, these “unpublished” pics were taken for fun, for us, with no intention at the time to share nor doing anything more with them. But then we realized, there’s some pretty interesting stuff in there that perhaps some of you might be interested in too. The majority of what will be seen fits with the general theme of this website, so that’s good. Still, what’s picked is what will be published, unless totally cringe-worthy or too far removed in subject. But otherwise it’ll be a roll of the dice. Surprise!
Here’s the first, not a strong lead off perhaps, but remember it’s all by chance. Found at a Calgary construction site one evening it’s a beast of a truck, a 1970s/1980s era Kenworth C5XX series (C500 with think). These were designed for severe service and could be had with twin steer axles as seen here. Hoods could be fibreglass, as seen on this one, or all steel if they needed to be extra tough. To find a beaten up oldie like this still in service is a real treat and I bet it’s noisy as heck and has a real “presence” in traffic. No one will get in its way!
Shot was done as a long exposure – note the car taillight trails – using a compact camera no less.
Around that time…
Sonic Prospector – one word: Pinball!
Short Subjects: reports that for any number of reasons are brief in nature. They might be updates to older articles, previews of posts planned or not yet published, brief snippets of things that don’t fit in anywhere else or subjects that are so obscure that information on them can’t be found. Or sometimes we just ramble on about Lord knows what.

Love this shot!
Glad to hear.
Now that’s what I call a truck. Looks like an old oilfield hauler from the Peace country.
It just may be. Looks the part.
That IS a beast! Wow!
You don’t see many old trucks like this on the roads around here. Especially one so big.
