Random Pick: Irricana @ Night

We didn’t know at the time, but when these nothing photos of little Irricana Alberta were captured in early 2020, the world was about to change. Maybe forever. We all felt the rumblings and knew trouble was on the horizon, but to what extent and the magnitude, could not predict. Here’s some casual snaps from an adventure road trip, a mere week or two before the poop hit the fan.

With us blissfully ignorant to what was about to transpire, soon it’d be a descent into Covid madness from which there appears no recovery. In hindsight, what an eerie time, even if it takes us looking back to realize it.

Irricana is a place we know well and here we just stopped by on the way back home and decided supper was in order. The local dive bar* turned out to be the only game in town and so won by default. We had a great meal, cheap too, our last at a restaurant in a long time and met some interesting locals. We’d call that a win. Look at that old school phone booth!

The old Irricana Hotel (built 1910) has been closed a long time and isn’t looking so good. We understand someone was living in it then, although to look at the building you’d never fathom it possible. It’s listed for sale now, but we question anyone wanting to buy something needing so much work. The foundation shows buckling for one.

Once again, the random photos seen here are not all that bad, but worry at some point we’ll post something atrocious or real cringeworthy and have some explaining to do. These are unpublished images picked entirely by chance.

*Dive: in an endearing way.

From that same card dump…
Retro Motels: Medicine Hat Alberta.

Short Subjects: reports that are short and sweet in nature. It’s stuff interesting enough in itself, but not deserved of the full on BIGDoer.com treatment. Think silly little snippets, vignettes and likewise things of that sort and you’ll be in and out in no time.
