Random Pick: 120 Squrt
So far there’s been no embarrassing pictures in this series, but by the numbers, it’s bound to happen. We’re simply closing our eyes and picking a random (unpublished) photo from our collection and posting it here. Good or bad, it’s all fair game. We often shoot stupid pics just for us so this also gives you a glimpse of what you might otherwise never see. That’s the case here. Presenting Redwood Meadows’ β120 Squrtβ, a vintage fire truck we’ve passed by before but never photographed.
Sitting on display in front of the local firehall at the time, the truck has since moved and maybe is gone. Redwood Meadows is west of Calgary and on the way to some of our favourite hiking destinations.
This truck comes from maker Superior out of Red Deer and was purchased new in 1975 by the Calgary Fire Department. Later acquired by Redwood Meadows Emergency Services (year unknown, but ’90s suggested) it operated into recent times, best we can tell. Doesn’t the colour pop nice in this winter scene?
120 = the station call number within Calgary’s integrated network and Squrt = the brand name for a the aerial snorkel. Located atop a lightweight extendable boom, this affords an elevated position from which to attack the flames and that’s a distinct advantage.
Photographed on the way to this…
