Random Pick: The Legacy Ponoka
The Legacy, in Lion’s Centennial Park Ponoka Alberta, is claimed as the world’s largest saddle bronc statue. Photographed while out for an evening stroll, this roadside attraction is a subject we never planned to share. We shoot a lot of images just for us, as was the case here, even if truth be told, it sometimes takes years before we look at them. Yet still we do it, even if we don’t always know why.
Installed in 2004, the statue is “Dedicated to the strength of the pioneer families”.
Just a short walk away and similarly a monument, but of another sorts, it’s the ghost signage of a Movie Galley rental outlet. This business, by all accounts, closed long ago (a decade?), yet no one has bothered to remove the last vestige. Movie rentals – that was a thing, in what, 2002? Wonder what the charges will be on that long-overdue Notting Hill VHS? Oh, wait, they’re out of business! Score!
Random picks are just that and when selecting, we simply close our eyes and choose one (or a related group) from our collection. They potentially could show anything, and given we’re too lazy to delete bad photos when doing a card dump, they could even be something God-awful embarrassing or cringe worthy. So far it hasn’t happened, but it will. Dodged another bullet here. The only consideration is they be as yet unpublished, but otherwise, all are fair game.
That same weekend…
