Random Pick: Columbia Gardens BC
It’s time for another random pick and the devil’s been cheated yet again. We simply close our eyes and choose an image from our huge collection, any image, that’s never been published before and post it here. Be it good or bad or even embarrassing, we’ll show you. So far, it’s been nothing damning or cringe-worthy, but it’s bound to happen some time. Here it’s a look at the Nelson & Fort Sheppard Railway Reload in Columbia Gardens BC and with the sky all aglow due to smoke from distant forest fires.
And we just has to include a companion pic of that amazing sunset minutes later! That’s the mighty Columbia River below.
This is the end of track for the little N&FS, and just behind our shooting position, it connects with a line that takes loads south to the US just a couple clicks away. The railway comes in from the Atco Mill in Fruitvale, near Trail, and ships veneers out to plywood manufacturers across the border in addition to other wood products loaded right here for various customers down south. In total the line is only a handful of kilometres long but it’s important link none the less.
This was a through the fence shot on a fine summer evening. It was stifling hot, dead silent, and the scene pure magic.
Columbia Gardens (circa 2016) can be seen from the train in these posts. We got a ride-along…
