Prairie Home with a View
Here’s a home with a view or rather it was previously a home with a view and now just an empty shell. Everyone up and left, so it’s been abandoned for some time now, this once grand farm house on the very edge of a scenic coulee. That it’s devoid of life is a true shame and we could imagine living there even today.
What a nice place to plop down roots and the scene here very different from the surrounding countryside. There’s still a lot of flat in every direction, by here the personality of the land changes and the monotony of the endless plains broken.
We’ve known of this house since the ’90s and it’s falling more and more into disappear with each passing year. Recently, the porch collapsed and this really changed the appearance of the structure. Before it was the very archetype of a rural farm house and now something’s been lost. Still, it’s a majestic in every way and for one, the bay window on the facing side is a pleasing design touch.
If we were betting types, we’d might say (cautiously) it was a catalogue home. The form and design cues remind us of one, even though we haven’t found a model like it in any old catalogues. It’d help if we could get a closer look, but we’ve yet to get the okay from the land owner and until that changes, we can only view from afar.
Here’s hoping one day we can pay it a visit to record it before it becomes a jumble of boards. Then can we either confirm or deny our hunch.
