Random Pick: A Thing for Trains

We have this thing for trains and photograph them every chance we get. Some might call it a silly obsession and looking inwards, even we think so at times. Truth be told most photos we capture on the subject are not interesting enough to post, but what ever reason they still mean something to us. None the less, the occasional railway piece might get published here, but only if it has broader appeal and not everyday stuff. This one is a nothing photo, really, a plain old roster shot and meant only for us, yet here we are.

Presenting another random pick of things not normally shared. It works like this: we close our eyes and choose an image from our vast collection, no matter what it’s about, be it good or bad, and then post it here. Even if something laughable, technically bad or embarrassing we’ll do it. So far, they’ve all been reasonable in every way, but one day we’re bound to select a real stinker.

Here’s the tail end of a Canadian Pacific train entering Alyth Yards in Calgary just after crossing 11st in the Ramsay neighbourhood. The engine is one of the CPR’s ubiquitous General Electric locomotives (they’re everywhere) and while the company’s motive power is often filthy, this one’s rather clean in appearance. Bucked the odds here. It really stands out against the snow and dull sky.

Yes, we got killer cell service from our shooting position.

Hope you enjoyed this little diversion and stay tuned for more random picks down the road.

From the same card dump…Calgary Then & Now: From Tom Campbell Hill, Retro Motels: Medicine Hat Alberta and Okotoks Loop.

Short Subjects: Reports that are short and sweet in nature. Think silly little snippets, vignettes and things of that sort. You’ll be in and out in no time.
