Random Post: Tranquille BC Sanatorium
Tranquille BC Sanatorium near Kamloops: opened in 1907 to treat tuberculosis, closed as a mental health facility about 75 years later, mostly empty ever since and said to be haunted. It’s on private land and in talking with an employee(?) of the agricultural firm working on the property, the entire complex is due to be levelled at some point. There’s a lot of buildings and those in the photos are the only ones visible from nearby roads.
There’s been much talk online of a resort being built here but that person had no comment on the subject. It’s the land, by Kamloops Lake, that’s valuable and not any historic connections, by the way. You’ll see a painting of some classic architecture on the school-looking structure and it came from one failed attempted at repurposing the property.
Further this person went on to mention how many curious folks stop by and of many that end up breaking in. They’re driven on, no doubt, by its many spooky legends, the tragic history or its abandoned state. Given this, they understandably seemed a little edgy with our presence, even though we were on a public road. Hospitals, especially those of this nature are big attractants to ghost hunters and curious explorers. We made a request to go in years ago, and were turned down (it happens).
These are random photos picked from our collection and came from our most recent card dump on returning back from a BC trip a few days ago. Normally we only choose one or two for these postings, but here a group worked better. These were never intended to be part of a post on BIGDoer.com, yet as it often happens, those plans changed. Disclaimer: an ugly power line got edited out in one of the photos.
Till next time…
