Jellyfish of Comox Harbour
Jellyfish of Comox Harbour: wasting away the day wandering the marina and in search of interesting things to photograph. There’s personal craft, fishing boats and these are the reason for our visit, but one can’t help be mesmerized by the large number of odd translucent creatures floating about.
They’re a curiosity, but at the same time a bit creepy and due to the calm waters here behind a breakwater, seem to congregate en masse.
We’re out on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia and enjoying something different.
We believe these are moon jellyfish (aka common jellyfish) and they cover a broad range of sizes. Some a quite tiny and the the biggest perhaps the size of a dinner plate. They just pulse about, moving with current and in what appears to be an aimless fashion. They just are, but it seems to work for them.
This species is pretty benign (some jellyfish can be poisonous) but still, they’re so alien in appearance. It’s like they’re sinister but you can’t quite place why.
Outdoor fun…
Adair Ridge – Porcupine Hills Ridge, West Bragg Creek Snowy Owl (mostly) and Devil’s Hole (East Kootenay BC).
Short Subjects: Reports that are brief in nature. Think silly little snippets, vignettes and things of that sort. You’ll be in and out in no time.
