Blackfoot Trailer Park

Trailer parks have a bad reputation. If we believe the stereotypes they’re home to hardened criminals with extensive rap sheets, drugged out slackers with bizarre haircuts, boozers and other undesirables. lumped together with the working poor and old folks on limited incomes. It’s one ugly, unfriendly place best given a wide berth. Ask the pizza delivery guy.

Testing the theory, we stood there on the footbridge for a good hour or two overlooking the Blackfoot Trailer Park, South Calgary on a weekend evening. That’s when the action is at its best we’re told. That’s how it plays out on TV. Popcorn at the ready!

Huh…

The place looks pretty tidy overall. Where’s the cars on blocks? I don’t hear any sirens, no shouting, signs of partying or gun play, no bonfires, no smell of weed. Expecting full-on chaos, it was dead quiet with only a single vehicle passing the entire time. And it looked in good running condition โ€“ no dents either. And the fellow driving it neither had a pompadour, a glass of booze in hand, nor was he shirtless and expecting triplets.

Did we miss something?

Are the boys in jail? Must be a rare quiet moment between s**t-storms. Yeah, that’s it. No way this “quiet” is reality.

Is it?
