1958 Buick

Here’s a spring discovery and had things greened up more, we’d have never spotted this derelict 1958 Buick hidden in the trees. Out here on the backwater prairies, it’s rare to find such an upscale car from that era and most rural folks back then drove pickups, or something else workaday. You wanted a car that could handle the rough and dusty roads and something so nice was a poor fit. Not that many could even afford such a classy ride. This is farming and ranching country, as hard on vehicles as it is to those who call it home and pavement is often a luxury (even today).

So, what’s the story? Where as for everyone else it was plain old Chevies, Plymouths and Fords, this person, who ever they were, did it in style. We’re not completely sure the model, given the car’s been partly stripped of identifiable parts, but have fallen in love with that colour. It’s perfect for the era and goes well with all that wondrous chrome. At the time it was ALL about chrome and this car came well adorned. Some of it, but not all of this brightwork, had been removed.

A paint chart tells us the car still wears factory colours and that’s light Turquoise in the GM catalogue. Tailfins, chrome and pastel shades – what a time.
